Are you about to start your SureSmile therapy in Lexington? Keep reading this short blog post to discover what each day will look like!
SureSmile is a type of clear aligner that helps improve your tooth alignment and even address issues with your bite.
It’s a popular alternative to traditional metal braces for many reasons. First, SureSmile trays are made from clear plastic, which goes virtually unnoticed while you wear them.
They are also removable and allow easy maintenance and higher levels of comfort.
The treatment timeline depends on your specific case. Minor tooth alignment issues can be corrected in a matter of months, while more severe cases could take a year or more.
No matter the case, you will need to wear your aligners for at least 20–22 hours every single day. Yes, that includes sleeping with them on!
Here’s a breakdown of what a day with SureSmile aligners might look like:
After you wake up, you should head to the bathroom to brush your teeth and clean your aligners.
Take them out and put them in their special tray to avoid staining them or getting bacteria on the plastic. Brush your teeth thoroughly, and run the aligners through cold water to rinse them before you put them on.
Eating with aligners can lead to stains or even shape changes if you consume something hot.
Whether it’s one of your main meals or even a quick snack, you need to take out your aligners and put them in their tray. The same goes for drinking anything other than plain water.
Once you’re done, it’s best to brush your teeth, or at least rinse them with gentle mouthwash. Rinse your aligners in cold water again and put them on.
Before going to bed, you should brush and floss your teeth thoroughly, but this is also the time to clean your aligners!
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush (not the one you use for your teeth) and clear soap, and gently scrub the inside and outside of SureSmile. You can also purchase special aligner cleaners.
After you’re done, run cold water over them to make sure you remove all traces of the soap and cleaner. Don’t use hot water, as this can change their shape.
Once they’re cleaned and soap-free, pop them back on, and you’re ready for bed. Repeat these steps tomorrow.
